The September 17, 2022 update, also known as the combat update part I, is a major update in Islands that revamped the combat system, adding many more mechanics, categories, and new weapons.

- Added the Combat Catalogue.
- Added new idle, draw, and fire bow animations.
- Added golden shortbows.
- Added iron shortbows.
- Added stone short arrows.

Modifications[]
- Mobs are now weak, neutral, or resistant to certain weapon types.
- Revamped bows:
- The trajectory of arrows are now smoother.
- Bows now require specific types of arrows to use.
- Charging shots no longer increase the base power of projectiles of all magic weapons but the Slime Queen's scepter.
- Modified the base damage of many weapons:
- Static scepter: 2 HP/s → 8 HP/s.
- Spellbook: 45 HP → 22 HP.
- Tidal spellbook: 42 HP → 36 HP.
- Ruby staff: 42 HP → 36 HP.
- Staff of Godzilla: 25 HP → 20 HP.
- Spirit spellbook:
- White projectiles: 40 HP → 30 HP.
- Blue projectiles: 45 HP → 37 HP.
- Pink projectiles: 48 HP → 42 HP.
- Green projectiles: 55 HP → 46 HP.
- Slime Queen's scepter: 50 HP → 40 HP.
- Ranged weapons shoot in the direction of the player's cursor (PC only).
- The damage indicator changes color based on weapon type.
- Renamed the basic bow to "Wooden Shortbow".
- Renamed the artifact bow renamed to "Ancient Longbow".
- Renamed the vamp bow renamed to "Azarathian Longbow".
- Increased the sell price of potatoes from 11 coins to 17 coins.
- Decreased the sell price of radishes from 64 coins to 59 coins.
